Cofely Fabricom, a new player in Western Canada, successfully secured an 80-module contract with Sunlake Co., the Canadian division of SK Engineering, as part of Fort Hills Project owned by Suncor, Total E&P and Teck Resources, and operated by Suncor.
As part of its international expansion, Cofely Fabricom (ENGIE Group), a global leader in energy services, has an established presence in Alberta since September 2013. With offices in Calgary and a 35 acres modular assembly facility in Fort Saskatchewan, Cofely Fabricom aims to tap into the region's oil, gas and petrochemical market by offering innovative solutions in modular construction. The organization has gained a global reputation for building long-term sustainable projects founded on safety, quality, and delivery reliability. Cofely Fabricom leverages a proven "plug and play" approach to modular construction ideally suited to owners requiring innovative solutions to reduce Total Installed Cost. The new modular construction yard in Fort Saskatchewan has an initial production capacity of 150 Alberta-size modules per year and will employ 250 Albertans.
Over half of the yard already contracted
Officially in service since November 2014, Cofely Fabricom's new Canadian yard signed its first order to assemble 80 modules for its customer Sunlake Co., the Canadian division of the Korean organization SK Engineering. The modules will be installed on the Fort Hills Project site in the Athabasca region.
Module assembly will begin in November 2015 and end in June 2016, taking up over half of the yard's capacity during that period. In all, more than 2,447 tonnes of steel, 8.5 km of piping and 18 km of cables will be assembled by Cofely Fabricom's Canadian team, representing over 130,000 hours of work.
Didier Lhuillier, CEO Cofely Fabricom, said:
"We established our Canadian presence in 2013 and shared our approach to innovative fabrication of modules with leaders in the oil and gas industry. Today, our approach resonates with owners eager to leverage innovation in the quest for overall cost reduction. This first order allows us to strengthen our presence in Alberta and grow the team. Our global reputation for building and delivering projects safely, on time and on budget is now following us to Canada, where we hope to make a real, long-term difference in the expanding local market."
